Social Events: October 2017 to April 2018

All social events are at St Olave’s Church Hall, Marygate, and commence at 7.30 p.m. unless otherwise stated. All members and friends are very welcome to attend. There is an admission fee of £3.00 to cover the cost of the hall hire and speaker’s fee.

Tuesday Evening, Oct 17th ‘TA Leonard and CHA: It is well over a year ago that we had a visit from Douglas Hope telling us about his research into the life and times of TA Leonard. Douglas has now published a book about TA Leonard and his founding of the Cooperative Holiday Association (CHA), an association our club was affiliated to for many years. Douglas returns to tell us more about his research and the launching of his book.

Tuesday Evening, Nov 21st Illustrated Talk: Tonight we welcome Barry Bishop of York RSPB, who will present his illustrated talk entitled ‘Standing on the Edge of the World’. Barry is an accomplished photographer of wildlife, especially birds; this excellent talk features the birds to be seen on the Shetland Islands. We look forward to enjoying his company and photographs.

Tuesday Evening, Dec 12th Christmas Party: Time to meet friends old and new to enjoy a festive evening of food, fun, games and dancing, so please come along and enjoy the festivities, the more the merrier! Donations of food will be most welcome; please note that members donating food do not pay for admission. Meet from 7.00 p.m. onwards.

Monday Late Afternoon-Early Evening, Jan 1st 2018 Social: Following the New Year’s Day ramble, there will be a social at St. Oswald’s Church Hall, Fulford, from 3.30 p.m. for a New Year meet and greet, with a dance or two or maybe more. Food donations would be most welcome.

Tuesday Evening, Jan 16th Illustrated Talk: Following the success of his earlier talk, Ian Drake returns to give part 2 of his ‘Now You See Now You Don’t’ talk, more about disappearing York.

Tuesday Evening, March 27th Illustrated Talk: Rowntree’s factory was a different place before computers and the take-over by Nestle. Tonight’s illustrated talk ‘Chocolate’ by Richard Atkinson features those times and takes a fascinating nostalgic look at that bygone era.

Tuesday Evening, April 24th Talk: Tonight we welcome Sue Woodcock to give her talk ‘Copper to Shepherd’, a humorous account of her fascinating life; a tale not to be missed.
